🎉 Congratulations on Completing Your LearnBasicTech Training!

You did it! You've successfully completed the LearnBasicTech digital skills training, and now you're holding your very own laptop with Windows 11. This is more than just a computer—it’s a tool for opportunity, learning, connection, and growth. We're so proud of your hard work and excited for all the amazing things you’ll do with your new device.

To help you get started, we’ve put together this simple guide to walk you through the first-time setup of your Windows 11 laptop. Take your time and follow each step, and you’ll be up and running in no time!

How to Set Up Your New Windows 11 Laptop

1. Turn On Your Device

Plug in your laptop to ensure battery life.

Press and hold the power button on your laptop. You’ll see the HP logo and the Windows 11 setup screen will begin loading.

2. Connect to Wi-Fi

Choose your home Wi-Fi network and enter the password. This allows your laptop to connect to the internet for setup and future use.

Your PC will be checking for updates after connecting to Wi-fi. It is important you do not turn off your PC during this process!

3. Accepting License Agreement

You are prompted to accept the Windows 11 License Agreement. Select 'Accept' to continue with the setup process.

4. Create a Microsoft Account

You’ll need a Microsoft account to access essential features like Microsoft 365 and cloud storage.

You can use your existing Gmail address—there's no need to create a new email!
Just follow the prompts to set up your Microsoft account using your Gmail. You’ll receive a verification email on your phone. Open that email and enter the six-digit code on your laptop when asked.

5. Create a PIN

You’ll be asked to create a PIN. This is what you'll use to unlock your laptop.

Your PIN is:

  • Usually 4 digits, but it can be longer.
  • Not the same as your email or Microsoft account password.
  • Used to lock and unlock your device quickly and securely.

6. Miscellaneous Settings

Your laptop may ask you a few more questions—like choosing privacy settings or enabling location services. You can follow the recommended settings or adjust them later in your settings menu.

7. Restart Your Laptop

Windows 11 checks for updates. If any updates are found you will be prompted to download and install the update, then restart your device. It is important that you do not turn off the PC during the update or restart processes.

8. Enter Your Pin

After the restart, enter the PIN you just created to log into your device. That’s it! You’re ready to explore your new laptop.

What's Next?

Now that your laptop is ready, you can start using it to:

  • Browse the internet
  • Check your email
  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and other tools,
  • Join Zoom calls
