On June 20 and June 27, the Heart and Soul Center hosted its highly anticipated Learn Basic Tech digital skills training, reoccurring every Thursday from 12pm to 4:30pm. Located at the Heart and Soul Center, this vibrant community hub lent its resources, including laptops, to attendees to complete their 8 hours of coursework.
The Heart and Soul Center is renowned for its commitment to community upliftment, offering various programs that cater to the diverse needs of its members. With LearnBasicTech training, they provided laptops for participants to use during the workshops, ensuring everyone had the tools needed to succeed. This initiative was particularly aimed at helping communities in need, bridging the digital divide and empowering individuals with essential tech skills.

The class attracted a wide range of ages and skill levels, from a 12-year-old eager to learn to a 79-year-old keen on keeping up with the times. Trainers Arielle Thomas and Alban Kalasa led the class through various workshops and hands-on training sessions, making the learning process engaging and accessible for everyone. Their patience and encouraging teaching style made even the most daunting tech concepts understandable and approachable.

After successfully completing the 8 hours of coursework online, seven lucky students walked away with a free laptop. The selection was based on their eligibility and dedication throughout the course, making the reward a significant milestone for those students. This generous gift symbolized a new beginning, offering recipients the tools they needed to continue their learning journey and stay connected in an increasingly digital world.

One student, Z. Bolden, expressed immense gratitude for her new laptop, as her old one had crashed while she was working towards her PhD. This new laptop was not just a device but a crucial tool to help her continue her academic journey. Z. Bolden’s story resonated deeply with many, showcasing the profound impact of the program on individual lives.

Despite some students being familiar with technology, many attended the course to improve their digital skills. The positive experiences shared by participants encouraged others to join, highlighting the program's inclusive and supportive nature. The sense of community fostered during the sessions created an environment where everyone felt valued and motivated to learn.

The event also saw the presence of Sabra Johnson, DTD Division Manager, photographed with Dr. DK Dyke Redmond, the CEO and Creative Director of the Heart and Soul Center. Their involvement underscored the importance of the initiative and the Center’s commitment to fostering digital skills training. Their presence was a testament to the program's success and its vital role in community development.

Importantly, you do not need to be part of the church or congregation to join these events. LearnBasicTech and The Heart and Soul Center welcome everyone eager to improve their digital skills, regardless of their background. This open-door policy ensures that anyone in need of digital skills training can benefit from the program.
